Safety
Harbor Boat Club Meeting Minutes
October 5th, 2011
Officers
Present: Von Taylor, Commodore; Ron Poirson, Vice Commodore; Marty Horowitz, Treasurer;
and Cindy Anderson, Secretary
Von Taylor called
the meeting to order at 18:31 with 20 members, plus officers, present.
Ellen Henderson
introduced our speaker C. J. Stites, retired Marine Patrol Officer (35
years) from Bridgeport CT who now runs the Dolphin Adventure and Sightseeing
Tours in Clearwater Beach. He talked about some of the work he did,
some of the bigger investigations he participated in, had statistics
on the types of services the organization provided, and about some of
the lifesaving rescues (or recovery efforts) at the City of Bridgeport's
surrounding waters.
Commodore Report:
Von opened the floor
for nominations of the 2012 SHBC officers. Dale Cuddeback nominated
Von Taylor to return as Commodore, which he accepted. Ron Poirson voiced
he would not accept Vice Commodore position and Sean Dorosinki was nominated.
Marty Horowitz also said he would not accept the Treasurer spot and
asked Frank Fitzhenry to accept a nomination, which he did. Chris Garrill
asked me (Cindy) to continue for another year as Secretary, which I
accepted.
Von reminded everyone
that the website is updated regularly and to use it for the most up-to-date
information on activities and it provides a wealth of useful information
available on it.
Von asked the members
to email me (Cindy) to nominate a club member for extra contribution/effort
to the club and/or Safety Harbor community. The recognition award will
be given at the Annual Holiday party in December which will be at the
Rusty Pelican. Also, it's time to start making food selections and paying.
The cost is $20 per member if paid by December 1, else increases to
$25.00 per member after December 1st. Non-members/guests will be $45.00
each, of which $25.00 will go for their membership. We need to confirm
the count by December 1st with The Rusty Pelican and once again the
club will subsidize the cost of the meals.
Von also reminded
members that 2012 club dues are coming due. Initiation and annual dues
will the amount of $25.00 per family/boat and this is a good time to
get that done as well.
Von reported that
he and Chris Garrill cleaned/de-barnacled the club's buoys.
Von's daughter made
name tags (which most were wearing!). Return them to the box at end
of meeting and he will bring to future events and meetings.
Vice Commodore

for the club include:

people coming to town we will need to reschedule.

of new, unwrapped toys now thru early December.

trip scheduled to Boca Grande for 10/8 and it has been delayed to depart
on 10/15 with estimated return of 10/22 if anyone wants to join.
Von is working with
the city on new signage on the markers and that the manatee sign needs
to be lowered or moved as it blocks the entrance markers.
Safety Harbor's
Holiday Parade will be coming up in early December. We have a small
boat on a trailer that we've used before that we'll decorate and pull
in the parade. It will have our Safety Harbor Boat Club banner on the
boom to advertise our group.
Club apparel, hats
and burgees are available for purchase.
Patrick Whelan showed
pictures of how high pilings should be in our marina for proper water
surge in the event of a hurricane.

from previous SHBC events.
